Some youth members of the New Patriotic Party have set ablaze the party’s constituency office following the announcement of Damongo as the capital of the Savannah Region.
The angry rampaging have also chased out the constituency chairman claiming that they are disappointed by the President’s decision to name Damongo as the capital of the newly created Savannah region.
Several properties belonging to the party in the area have also been destroyed by the angry youth.
President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday settled on Damongo as the capital for the newly created Savannah region.
Earlier in the day, Nalerigu was chosen by the President as capital for the North East region.
The creation of the six regions was a major campaign promise of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the 2016 electioneering period.
After the NPP won the polls, a Commission of Inquiry, headed by a retired Justice of the Supreme Court Justice Stephen Brobbey, was instituted to ensure the creation of the region.
According to Starr FM’s Northern regional correspondent, Eliasu Tanko, the youth claim that the NPP secured its highest number of votes in Salaga and expected the President to reward them by naming the town as the capital of the new region.
