Ghana’s music industry will henceforth experience a major boost, as telecom giant; MTN Ghana engages players on emerging trends and also monetizing their works.
Persons in the value chain who include artistes, record label owners, producers, managers, marketers among others, were taken through the various ways of leveraging technology to digitize their local content.
MTN engaged these key stakeholders at the second MTN Digital Music Conference held under the theme: “The Music Industry and Adapting to Emerging Global Technologies; Opportunities and Challenges” at the Golden Bean Hotel in Kumasi on Tuesday January 22, 2019.
Speaking to Ultimate Business at the event, Senior Manager, Products and Services at MTN Ghana, Bless Sefenu Agordjo explained that the mobile network was excited about the prospects of the local music industry, hence the needed support it must be given to promote it.
“MTN operates within a certain industry and as a form of our support; we thought it wise to educate them on the new trends and technologies that are available to our creative industry and can also help them create an alternative to the current revenue source for music creativity.”
“We want to bring these together as a form of providing resources that can aid players upscale their business in terms of music delivery, productivity and further leverage on the subscriber base that MTN has”, Mr. Sefenu Agordjo added.
The MTN Senior Manager for Products and Services moreover revealed that: “MTN has also bought an online distributor which is Simfy Africa and very soon we’ll be launching on to the Ghanaian market, what we call Music Time. What Music Time does is to provide usage-based or consumption of music based on time.”
He also hinted that the mobile money (MoMo) platform will be incorporated to make payment easy for consumers of local content.
“One of the barriers to consumption of music online also in this country is payment and so what we’re also doing is to be able to partner with these platforms to be able to use MoMo or airtime to make payment for these services.”
