Twenty four (24) schools have taken positions for the second phase of the Ultimate FM SHS Debate with the Ashanti region Student Representative Council under the supervision of the Ghana Education Service.
The hot contest of “brains beyond borders” which is already making buzzing waves on social media is spearheaded by Ashanti region Students Representative Council and Ultimate FM of the Excellence In Broadcasting (EIB) Network.
The launch of the round of 24 and the draw came off at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council with the able partnership of the
Otumfuo Charity Foundation
Contest one will have Kumasi Academy Senior High School, Nkawie Senior High Technical School, Adventist SHS (Kumasi), and Armed Forces SHS.
Contest two is expected to be a tough one with Opoku Ware Senior High School, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Senior High School, Sims Commercial and Pakoso Community Day Senior High School.
The draw also witnessed a female dominated group in Group three comprising Kumasi Girls SHS, Serwaa Nyako Girls SHS, Adventist Girls SHS and Asare Badiako Senior High School which is a mixed school.
The forth contest has St. Hubert SHS, Angel Educational Complex SHS, Dadiease Agric and T.I. Ahmadiya Senior High School (Kumasi).
Contest five will see TI AMASS Fomina, Gyarkye Pramso SHS, Sekyere Dumase and Wesley High School (Konongo)
In Contest six, the last but not least Konongo Odumase SHS, Nyinahen SHS, Yaa Asantewaa Girls Senior High School and St Mary’s SHS will be facing it off.
Addressing the official launch and draw, the Ashanti Region President of the SRC Maxwell Boakye Angello pointed out that the mother student body is committed to ensuring that students participate in these competitions, to broaden their horizon.
He assured, “the ARSRC continues to undergo a series of metamorphosis to facilitate the endeavours of the Ashanti Regional student body with the aim of widening the scope of knowledge and the capacity of intelligence in order for students to appreciate not just classroom work but to give a fair deal of advancement in knowledge on matters surrounding us, the society we live, the very technologies we use and the people that rule us.”
He further called on all stakeholders and potential sponsors to come on board to support the Social Science and Arts biased quiz to assume a national Appeal just as is witnessed at the National Maths and Science Quiz.
The Ashanti Region coordinator of the SRC Raphael Sakodie challenged the students to be wide read as several of the students found it tough relating to general knowledge and questions relating to politics and current affairs.
Business Manager of Ultimate Fm Edmond Patrick Asamoah noted that the Quiz was picked up by the Excellece In Broadcasting (EIB) Network radars because it resonates with the ideals of the station to identify with projects that have bearing with developing and making an impact in society.
The 24 schools are expected to battle it out into the top 16 and progress to pitch their places in the final four where the ultimate Winner for the Ultimate FM SRC SHS quiz will be decided.
The quiz assesses students on Syntaxes in the English Language, social studies; general knowledge; current affairs and audio visuals of prominent events, places and public figures.
