Host of the Ultimate Drive on Ultimate 106.9 FM Naa Klordey Odonkor has in the spirit of the Christmas season reached out to orphans and mentally disabled persons in the Ashanti Regional Capital Kumasi.
Naa’s Charity Closet a brainchild of Naa, donated clothing; footwear food items among other presents to the Cheshire rehab centre and the Cherubs Orphanage.
Christmas came home for the intellectually disabled inmates of the Cheshire rehabilitation home when Naa’s CHARITY TRAIN made its first stop at the home.
The inmates were presented with food items; clothes; footwear; toiletries and a lot to eat and drink.
As part of a grand party with the inmates and staff of the home, a Christmas cake was cut to mark the birth of Christ.
Speaking to Ultimate News, the manager of the home Owusu Adjei bemoaned the societal neglect for persons with intellectual disabilities.
“People with history of mental problems are almost always stigmatized and discriminated against so as people celebrate Christmas with their family members and friends; they are not considered. So few people like Naa Klordey who has come here for three consecutive years are very much appreciated and this will have ripple effects on the community,” he commended.
The team moved next to the Cherubs Orphanage at the Santasi Appre where all from toddlers to teens received presents of clothes, footwear, toys, books and food items.
The children were treated to a feast to resonate with the feeling of celebrations of Christmas.
The founder of the home Elder Nicholas Osei Bonsu advised that Ghanaians find it in their hearts to regularly support less privileged in society aside the annual occasions like Christmas.
“Ghanaians like to give but they usually do it on occasions. This needs to be done simultaneously because you know these children are just like your family members who need help all the time. So it is not just a matter of occasions,” Elder Osei Bonsu noted.
Host of the Ultimate Drive and spearhead of Naa’s Charity Project Naa Klode Odonkor expressed her satisfaction at the reception accorded her benevolence.
Advising public influencers to expand their reach and impact on society, she pointed out that, “we are role models that people look up to and it’s not just good enough to be on radio and TV and be doing your work.
“Even beyond Christmas, we have to come out to show people love every day of our lives. These little ones, the aged and the mentally troubled do not get people coming to them to show them so much love. So we have to go out there and give the little that we have, because in giving, we receive just as the Bible says.” She added.
Some volunteers on Team Naa, couldn’t bottle in their excitement for getting on board the charity project which has been running for the past three years.
Emefa Tsahey a member of Team Naa told Ultimate News, “I have been with the Naa Charity Project for about three years now and it’s been amazing. Xmas is about giving and today I have had fun, I have loved, I sang Xmas songs and given shoes to children I don’t even know and they liked it. They were smiling and I am so grateful that I came”
Another volunteer Nana Adjoa Kobi Ntriwa recounted, “This is my second trip on this project. Every year I give out and I encourage people to help the needy especially kids like those we came to meet. They need people to be with them and show them love and this should be a regular feature,”
Some notable individuals and sponsors who supported the Naa’s Charity Closet were Treatz Royale; African Dream; Hyllet collections; Jemi Creams and treats, Urban Spice and Grill; Nyandy Glow; official laundry provider for the project, KPLIM Mobile Laundry services and official photographer for the project – InnoLense.
