The Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) and Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) through the Local Accountability Network (LANET) have held its Annual Accountability Forum on the implementation status of the composite action plan/ budget of Mampong Municipal Assembly.
The purpose of the forum put together by SWEDEC Ghana was to deepen the knowledge grassroots accountability systems that will foster good governance and local economic development.
Municipal Assembly Planning Officer, Samuel Luis Dankwa, presented to the participants the implementation statues of 2018 annual action plan with projects that have been implemented in the municipality.
Budget Officer, Louis Osei Owusu also broke down the total revenues the municipal assembly received, through internally generated funds, district development funds and urban grants, with their matching projects implemented in the municipality.
He expressed satisfaction that in 2016 the Assembly exceeded the budgeted property rate from Gh?6,117,860 to Gh?7,587,734.
The forum was attended by metropolitan, municipal, district assembly’s staff, civil society organizations, traditional leaders, assembly members, unit committee members and the media.
Some of participants were highly delighted to have had the opportunity to participate and make contribution to issue of development.
A traditional leader, Nana Oduro Sarfo, promised to take the initiative to further disseminate the information to churches, mosques and the entire community to understand the state of affairs in the municipality.
He again emphasized that the traditional authorities will use the community information center at least twice a year to educate the masses on the need to pay their market tolls and property rates.
A hairdresser, Naomi Mensah applauded the organizers for bringing officials from the Assembly to educate them and to explain big issues about developments in the area.
The GACC and OSIWA through LANET assured the Kofiase community that, there will be several of such interactions through quarterly radio programs to facilitate citizen engagement and participation.
