Perennial water shortages and water related skin rushes which has been an age long problem at the Prempeh College has been partly solved with the commissioning of a mechanized borehole in the school.
The project which was fully funded by the 1998 old student’s year group of the school is to serve four out of the nine dormitories of the Senior High Schools.
Until the commissioning of this borehole, students were left stranded anytime water stopped flowing from Ghana Water Company Limited.
Recently students developed skin rushes as a result of an acute water shortage which forced students to either find alternative sources of water or go without bathing for some days.
Speaking to Ultimate News, President of the 1998 old students of the Prempeh College, Dr Ernest Opoku indicated that the 45 thousand cedi investment was their contribution to the school as part of the group’s 20thanniversary and home coming ceremony.
He explained, “This year, as we decided for our home coming, a lot of ideas cropped up but we chose this particular one because at this particular time, there is this water shortage in the school. Some kids were skipping classes just because there was no water. Others were not taking their bath at all. As a result there were a variety of skin infections at the school and it was quite prudent to do this for the school.”
Assistant Headmaster academic of the Prempeh College Ernest Wiafe who commended the old students for the gesture, described the intervention as timely.
He disclosed, “Whenever there is a problem with water from the Ghana Water Company Limited, we suffer unduly. Students have to go round looking for water here and there sometimes affecting classes. So with this intervention by the 1998 year group, it has taken that burden virtually off.Four houses out of the nine are going to depend entirely on this mechanized borehole and we hope that in the near future other year groups will also come over and provide additional ones so that we can have our own internal water system without depending on Ghana Water,”
The school prefect, Dennis Kofi Neizer thanked the seniors on behalf of the students and demanded that all stakeholders continue to come to the aid of the school whenever need calls.
“As you started with our sound system and now a borehole, I know that better things are coming that will help the entire college to make the school a beacon of hope and a light unto the path of other schools.” He commended.
This will not be the first time this year group has come to the aid of the Prempeh College as the group has already mobilized to present a brand-new set of instruments to the school.
