Ghana’s largest network service provider, MTN has made a cash donation of Gh¢7,000 to the Bonwire Traditional Council ahead of the Bonwire Kente Festival in the Ashanti region.
Aside the funds, MTN also donated airtime worth Gh¢500 and branded souvenirs.
The Bonwire Kente Festival was this year launched in October to celebrate the heritage of the age-old clothing line and trade that is creating employment and generating income for people in the local fashion industry.
Also MTN biggest authorised dealer in the region, AshCell has catered to the cost of the communication materials for the festival and will present winners of a planned beauty pageant with cash prizes.
Speaking to Ultimate Business, Regional Commercial Head for MTN Ghana, Northern Sector, Peter Bimpeh mentioned that the gesture is to among other reasons reiterate the network’s commitment towards economic empowerment.
“To show our appreciation and support for this festival, we are here to present our token and we have in our hands, a cash donation of Gh¢7,000, a drink hamper, assorted MTN souvenirs and recharge cards worth Gh¢500.”
“In addition to these, our main distributor in Ashanti region, AshCell has also supported this festival in many ways. Last year, they were key sponsors and this year they have supported with the communication materials for the Bonwire Kente Festival”, Mr. Bimpeh noted.
He continued that “AshCell has donated some routers and they’re also sponsoring the beauty pageant we’ll be having over the weekend. They are sponsoring the first, second and third awards with Gh¢1,000, Gh¢800 and Gh¢500 respectively.”
The MTN Northern Sector Commercial Head used the opportunity to appeal to the community to nominate persons who are doing amazing work for the MTN Heroes of Change project.
“I want to also let you know that we’ve recently opened the opportunity, once again for the general public, to nominate individuals who are helping in their own small way to be nominated as part of our Heroes of Change. Nominations have been opened and you can pick a form from any of our service centres.”
“People have gone out of their own way to cause change and MTN has it as part of our agenda, to reward such people. You might have deserving people who are doing great things for the community on their own”, nominate them and if you’re lucky we’ll come back to Bonwire to reward people of such caliber”, Peter Bimpeh hinted.
The Bonwire Kente Festival under the auspices of the Tourism Ministry is expected to witness thousands of individuals, dignitaries, corporate bodies, government officials, tourists, business operators, come Saturday December 8, 2018 at Bonwire.
