Victims and affected families of the Foase security services brutalities are getting impatient by the minute.
Families whose relatives were killed in the February protests over the purported relocation of the district capital from Foase to Twedie have had to keep remains of their dead in morgues for the past eleven months.
Brutalized victims some of whom sustained life threatening gunshot wounds have born the full cost of their medical bills despite endless promises from Government.
The anxiety has been heightened after government released a report exonerating some 7 men who were wrongfully killed by the police on suspicion of armed robbery.
Four people were killed with over thirty others sustaining life threatening whip and gunshot wounds when the security detail, reined live bullets on the demonstrators who were against the purported relocation of the district capital from Foase to Twedie.
Father of 25 year old Prince Boateng who was shot dead during the mêlée told Ultimate News his family has had to live with the double agony of losing their child and waiting in limbo for governments consent for the family to bid their son a befitting farewell.
“My son’s body has been in the morgue for the past ten months. Who will be happy with this? Several committees have been here to meet us. We have not received a pesewa. What even saddens me the most is that my son was not part of the protestors,” he fumed.
He is not in this alone. The family of 28 year old Steven Kwame Nsia who remains paralyzed waist down after he was shot twice in the back have not received a penny for their medical bills.
His elder brother Elisha Kofi Asante says they have submitted receipts of their medical bills requested by government’s investigative committee but to no avail.
He told reporter Ivan Heathcote – Fumador, “All my capital has gone into medical bills. Government asked us to send our medical receipts. Till date no dignitary has been here to give us money.”
Steven Kwame Nsia is worried his health is not getting any better roaming from hospital to hospital.
In tears, he disclosed that he has told his girl friend whom he was billed to marry, to move on as he sees no hope in sight for his health,
The residents who are likely concerned about the death of their four neighbours and the health conditions of over thirty others left unsupported are angered government has not been fair to them.
They want nothing to do with the president Nana Akufo Addo and the New Patriotic Party who they accuse of abandoning them.
An angered resident indicated, “The Foase issue happened before Asawase but we have been neglected because we don’t have leaders. I am a delegate but I have cut my ties with the NPP. We will never vote for the NPP because they have not dealt well with us.”
Another angry woman lashed out, “We voted for Akufo Addo but we will not vote for him again. He cannot even put his posters here. When Mahama was coming here yesterday they told him we were lawless people. It only tells us that the president does not care about us.”
Meanwhile assembly member of the Foase Electoral Area Christian Okyere has refuted claims by the Ashanti regional minister that assembly members; chiefs and other traditional leaders have been briefed about the report and compensations packages for the affected families.
He insisted, “I am an assembly man and no committee has shown me any report. They only told our chairman on the committee that they will be briefing us and it’s been over two months now.
I can’t challenge the regional minister. But he should tell us which family member has been assured any compensation after we submitted estimates of funeral expenses and medical bills
He charged the regional minister to rather ensure that the committee does its work speedily to calm tensions in Foase.
