Communications Analyst and Public Interest Advocate Kojo Marfo has questioned the continuous stay in office of the Ashanti Regional Police commander after deceiving the public and covering up criminality in the police service.
His demand comes on the back of growing pressure for the president Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo to strip the commander off his post following a government report on the police-killing of some 7 young men at Manso Nkwanta.
The investigative report disclosed that there was no evidence to suggest that the 7 were armed robbers who engaged the police in a shootout as was vehemently put out by the Ashanti regional commander.
Mr Kojo Marfo contends the posturing of the police commander tells of a calculated cover-up for a criminal conduct of his men and cannot remain in his office.
Mr Marfo Insisted, “Obviously what we have been told is that we have a lying regional commander who is not supposed to be at post because based on the narrative he gave the media, the weapons he exhibited has all turned out not to be true. At least up to this point, the regional commander should not be at post because what he did to the public is deceit and if you have a regional commander who could give such information which turns out not to be true, I do not see how residents of Kumasi should be ok with this regional commander,
He told reporter Ivan Heathcote – Fumador, “I am convinced that all that happened on that day was to cover-up and what exactly they covered up, they should be appearing before the court to tell us what they covered up because clearly the seven gentlemen were not armed robbers from day one”
Mr Marfo also demanded that government releases the report on the police – military brutalities at Foase in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region that left four dead early this year.
