
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) says tax compliance in the Ashanti region is alarmingly low.
According to the GRA, the region with all its businesses contribute only 4% of Ghana’s total revenues.
The Commissioner General of GRA Mr Kofi Nti revealed the figures addressing traders on a National Tax Campaign held in Kumasi under the theme “our taxes our future.”
He pointed out that the worst culprits of tax evasion were people selling and conducting business from their cars.
He asked business owners in the Ashanti region become tax compliant to redeem the image of the region.
Meanwhile the GRA also announced that anyone who helps the Authority to find traders evading taxes; will be rewarded with 25% of every fine slapped on the culprit.
