Attempt by the Eastern Regional Security Council, REGSEC, to broker peace among two feuding chieftaincy rivals over celebration of this year’s Kloyisikplemi festival in the Yilo Krobo Traditional area ended in a deadlock.
The entrenched position of the faction of the Acting President of Yilo Krobo Traditional Council, Nene Tetteh Odonkor Tummeh and rival faction of His Royal Majesty Oklepeme Nuer Anorbaah Sasraku II, over who has the legitimate right to celebrate the festival has heightened tension in the traditional area.
Kloyosikplemi festival, which means descending the Krobo Mountains, is an annual festival celebrated in November every year, since it was instituted in 1992 by the late Konor of Yilo -Klo state, Kpeteple Narh Dawutey Ologo VI to commemorate the untold hardship that descendants of Yilo went through in the hands of the marauding forces of the British Colonial government in August 1892.
Due to protracted Chieftaincy dispute in the area, celebration of the festival has not been smoothly celebrated over the years.
With less than two weeks to celebrate the festival, there seems to be imminent deadly clashes and bloodshed as the two feuding factions fight over who is legitimate to celebrate the festival.
While the Acting President of Yilo Krobo Traditional Council, Nene Tetteh Odonkor Tummeh and the traditional Council have fixed the celebration of the festival to November 10 to 20, 2017, the other feuding faction led by “the Paramount Chief elect”, His Royal Majesty Oklepeme Nuer Anorbaah Sasraku II, has fixed a month long celebration of the Kloyisikplemi Festival starting From November 1-27, 2017.
Addressing the media by some sub chiefs who claimed to be representatives of the six divisional Chiefs who form the Traditional Council hold the view that Oklepeme Nuer Anorbaah Sasraku II, the “paramount Chief “elect is has the legitimacy to organize the festival.
They argued that the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs has indicated Oklepeme Nuer Anorbaah Sasraku II “can perform customary functions which include the following but limited to it: Pouring of libation, celebration of Akwasidae and other festival, swearing of oath of allegiance to him and other important customary functions which are peculiar to the traditional Area”.
However, Spokesperson for the Nene Odorkor Tummeh and the Royal gates, Gordon Gardener Batsa Adjirako popularly known as King George in an interview with Ghone News warned of mayhem should any attempt is made to upheld the legitimacy Oklepeme Nuer Sasraku II to celebrate the festival.
Meanwhile, Youth from Manya and Yilo Krobo, last week demonstrated among other things, disunity in the traditional area affecting collective decision to the benefit of their subjects.
They have vowed to stop the celebration of both Kloyosikplemi and Mayem festivals in Yilo and Manya Krobo respectively.
