
Aduana Stars sealed the 2016/17 Ghana Premier League title after beating Elmina Sharks 2-1 on Sunday.
The victory saw the Dormaa lads open a seven-point gap at the top with one game to end the campaign.
Elmina Sharks drew first blood before half time through Benjamin Tweneboah but the champions elect recovered two scored twice through Abdul Rashid and Sam Adams in the second half.
Second-placed WAFA SC saw their title ambition shattered by a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Ebusua Dwarfs at the Cape Coast Stadium. Joseph Esso bagged a brace, one from the penalty spot while Justice Amate scored the other goal for the Academy boys.
In Kumasi, an eighth minute strike from Sadick Adams ensured Asante Kotoko snatched all points available in their fixture against Berekum Chelsea.
Hearts of Oak were undone by a 68th minute strike by Francis Addo away to Medeama SC at the T&A Park.
A penalty on the stroke of fulltime converted by winger Ekow Benson saw Tema Youth win it late – 2-1 against Bechem United. Aaron Awannorh scored first for the hosts but Hamza Mohammed replied with the equalizer few minutes before halftime break. Tema Youth however remain the relegation zone, 14th while Bechem sit just above them a point better.
It was all level, 1-1 at halftime in the Northern derby between Wa All Stars and the already relegated Bolga All Stars at the Malik Jabir Park. However, the hosts returned for the second stanza in a ruthless mood as they scored five more to win 6-1. David Abagna scored a brace while Kweku Asuandzie Baffoe hit four goals. Razak Abdullah got the consolation goal for Bolga All Stars.
Inter Allies survived a late scare as they defeated Liberty Professionals 2-1 to help their survival charge on Sunday. Attacker Nasiru Hamzah set the tone for victory under one minute when he weaved into the visitors’ box and struck home. Captain Isaac Twum then doubled the advantage in the 20th minute from the spot after Hamzah again won the ‘Eleven Is To One’ side a penalty. Benjamin Eshun managed to get one back for Liberty late in additional time.
Great Olympics managed to beat AshantiGold at the Accra Sports Stadium with Christopher Nettey netting the only goal of the game via a penalty. The Miners lie at 11th position but dangerously with only two points separating them from 15th placed Olympics. AshGold will need to win their final game to stay in the league.
