The Eastern regional chairman of opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bismark Tawiah Boateng has suggested to the minority chief whip Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka to relinquish his position for betraying the party following alleged bribery scandal.
Alhaji Muntaka has been accused by minority members on the Apppointments Committee of Parliament of offering them bribes through the Chairman of the committee Joe Osei-Owusu.
According to Mr Tawiah, all NDC members on the committee have testified that they were offered bribes through the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase constituency, questioning why he is throwing dust in the eyes of the public by refusing to tell the truth.
Speaking with Kasapa news’ Bonohene Baffour Awuah, he bemoaned the adamant attitude by the law maker to spill the bean, asking why all the minority members on the committee would lie against him.
Mr Boateng indicated that the minority chief whip is no more fit to champion the cause of the party in Parliament adding that he has betrayed the party.
‘We should be deliberating on President Nana Addo’s State of the Nation Address read on Tuesday morning but there are pressing issues going on in our party that need to be discussed. The party members elect their MPs to represent them in Parliament. The party leadership chooses MPs to represent us in Parliament. Majority of the appointments were done by the party including Haruna Iddrisu and Muntaka’s positions.
We are very worried that he has refused to tell the truth after the MPs for Bawku central constituency Mahama Ayariga, North Tongu constituency Okudzeto Ablakwa and Tamale North constituency Alhassan Suhuyini had told us that you collected bribe to approve the nomination of the energy minister Boakye Agyarko. He should resign as minority chief whip so that we appoint another person who can push the agenda of NDC, he has betrayed the party,’ he said.
He anticipated that the credibility of Alhaji Muntaka will be questioned if the ad hoc committee’s report turns out that indeed he offered bribes to the minority.
‘He should have kept quite and allowed the committee to come out with its report, the party, his constituency will be disgraced if he indeed offered bribes through Joe Osei-Owusu,’ he explained.
