The suspended Chief Justice (CJ), Gertrude Esaaba Sackey Torkonoo, has filed an application at the Supreme Court seeking to reverse her suspension and halt the ongoing work of the committee investigating three petitions calling for her removal from office.
In a suit filed at the Apex Court on Wednesday, 21st May, on her behalf by former Attorney-General Godfred Dame, the suspended CJ challenged the determination of a prima facie case in relation to the petitions.
According to the writ, as cited by Pulse News, Madam Torkonoo is seeking a declaration that, upon a true and proper interpretation of Articles 19(13), 23, 146(1), (2), (4), and (6), and 296 of the Constitution, the purported prima facie findings regarding the three petitions—served on the Plaintiff by letter dated 22nd April 2025—do not amount to a valid determination of a prima facie case and are therefore null, void, and of no effect.

Among other reliefs, she is also requesting the Court to bar the Chairman of the Committee, Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, and Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu-Asiedu from participating in the process.
CJ Torkonoo is further requesting the Supreme Court to grant a public hearing of the Committee's inquiry into the three petitions.
