Snap map is a feature within the snapchat app which acts similar to Google or Apple maps. This feature pops up after updating your software. It’s serves as both a street map and allows you to find your friends on snapchat.

By default this tool is turned off and you can choose who sees your location so, you don’t need to worry about sharing your location with strangers just because you are "friends" on snap. Your location only updates when the app is open. If you are not active for a few hours, your ‘Actionmoji’ will disappear. This goes on to say that the app doesn’t track users in real time. This features doesn’t work unless you have your location settings turned on.

What are Actionmoji? These are customised avatars or cartoons of yourself which is created through snapchats Bitmoji app. You will see Actionmoji of your friends and family on the map.

Snap map also shows stories of people around the world. These areas appear to glow in soft blue or red on your map. This shows places where people are snapping and add on the ‘Our story’ feature. If you hold down a glowing spot for a second and let it go. It will display snaps from that place.

STEPS TO ACCESS THE SNAPCHAT MAP TOOL

• Tap on the snapchat app logo on your home screen, to open the app.
• Open the map by ‘pinching’ the home screen from the outer corners. This is done by moving two fingers from the borders of the phone towards each other.
• An interface will appear which says welcome to snap map. And has two options ‘Allow’ or ‘exit map’. Tap on ‘allow’ to access the map or exit to leave.
• If you choose to access the map. Next choose who you will like to share your location with. You can choose to share your location with all your friends, certain friends or with nobody. If you don’t want to share, it’s called ‘Ghost mode’ on the app.

 

• Now you can share your location and see where your friends are too.
