

A wrap of the performances of Ghanaian players in the Premier League in the opening week.
The 2017/2018 Premier League begun in a thrilling fashion with a number of goals and drama spilled over the venues and days with exciting matchups.
The return of the Premier League was indeed long awaited and on Friday, 11th of August the games begun.
We look at how Ghanaian players played their part in this thrilling week.
Leicester City centre back Daniel Amartey was first up with the Ghanaian contingent as he featured in the league opener against Arsenal on Friday night.
The defender by trade came in for attacker Shinji Okazaki in the 72nd minute. He played in the midfield for the 15 minutes as his team lost 4-3 to Arsenal.

Jeffrey Schlupp was an unused substitute for Crystal Palace as his side played against Huddersfield Town. The newly promoted side disposed of Crystal Palace by 3-0 at the latter’s home ground Selhurst Park.
Forward Jordan Ayew featured for Swansea for 90 minutes against Southampton. The forward who played through the left wing, as he teamed up with left back Kyle Naughton but nothing to show as the game ended in a barren 0-0.

His brother Andre Ayew also featured 90 minutes for West Ham as his side were subject to a 4-0 demolition from Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United.
Ayew was mostly kept out of the game as the performance of their opponents was so overwhelming on the day to dilute the threat the West Ham attack in Arnautovic Javier Hernandez and Andre Ayew posed.
Christian Ayew has finally sealed a permanent deal after he move from Fc Porto to Chelsea in the summer of 2013. The winger has played for a number of sides on loan including his current club Newcastle last season. Newcastle signed Atsu on permanent deal after a series of great performances in the Championship last season.

Atsu made his Premier League debut for Newcastle United against Tottenham Hotspurs which started on a great note but faded away after his side was caught in a fix with their captain Jonjo Shelvey being sent off in the 48th minute. Newcastle lost 2-0 at home to Spurs.
Ghana was at the receiving end with the various matchups in week 1 as no team with a Ghanaian player came out victorious. We would hope for better results for the Ghanaian contingents as the weeks unfold
