Group of protesters are currently demanding full disclosure of the President's health or he should resign.
President Muhammadu Buhari is said to be considering handing over power to his deputy, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo if he fails to recover .
According to a source at the Presidency, “The president is not desperate to cling on to power if his health cannot carry him.
"I can tell you authoritatively that he has given a time line that if he doesn’t recover fully on a specific date, he will file in his resignation letter and if you know President Buhari very well, he meant what he said.”
This comes on the back of increased public pressure that has culminated in street protests both in Nigeria and the United Kingdom where he is currently recuperating. One of such protests turned violent leading to Police firing tear gas to disperse the crowd. In Nigeria the street protests have been led by by a songwriter and son of a former Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Charles Oputa (Charley Boy).

The protest which started on Monday, August 7, 2017, was dispersed by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Tuesday, August 8 citing threat to public peace.
The police in a statement stated that its action was aimed at maintaining law and order in the city, as the continued protests had been hijacked by criminal elements.
“It will be recalled that “Our-Mumu-Don-do Movement” carried out their protest on Monday 7th August 2017.... However, today 8th August, 2017 the same group assembled at the same venue but allowed miscreants, hoodlums and other unruly individuals to infiltrate the protests, who started blocking the major roads adjoining the Unity fountain, obstructing traffic and preventing movements of other innocent citizens from going to their means of livelihood..." the statement reads in part.
President Buhari left Nigeria May 7, 2017, on a medical level to the United Kingdom for an undisclosed ailment.
