Accra Hearts of Oak defeated Tema Youth 3-1 on match-day 24 of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) played at Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
Two goals from Thomas Abbey and Kwame Kizito’s goal ensured Hearts secured all three points as they occupy the third position on the league log with 39 points. Joseph Paintil scored the consolation goal for Tema Youth.
Hearts started the game on front foot as they staged early pressure on the Tema Youth defence. The early pressure nearly paid off in the first five minute when Patrick Razak narrowly missed from close range to the relieve of the Tema Youth defence who stood firm despite the early pressure.
Hearts striker Kwame Kizito scored the cushion goal for Hearts in the 56th minute when he headed in from close range after Patrick Razak drive a goal was half saved by
Tema Youth goalkeeper Steven Kweku.
Tema Youth playmaker, Joseph Paintil pulled one back for the visitors in the late stages of the second half, but a superb strike from Thomas Abbey ensured Hearts restored their two goal lead.
Hearts were able to hold on to their lead as they stayed in third, five points adrift leaders Aduana Stars but the Phobians have one game in hand against arch-rivals Kotoko.
