The post features the gold medalist dancing in a thong and a tight, cropped tank top.
McKayla Maroney, a grown woman and former gymnast for the U.S. Olympic team, has too many people jumping to conclusions after she posted a semi-revealing video to Instagram.
Said post features the gold medalist dancing in a thong and a tight, cropped tank top. It’s hardly troubling—or any more scandalous than what you can see on a beach or on the profiles of myriad Instagram models—and yet, many commenters assumed Maroney was hacked and the video would eventually disappear.
Maroney took notice and followed the video up with a post confirming she wasn’t hacked and urging anyone to unfollow her should they need to. “All love,” she added in the caption for a photo of a field of flowers.
A day later, she posted a couple of profile photos of her in her underwear once again.
If you still find yourself concerned for Maroney or judging her—you should chill. The 21-year-old is perfectly capable of making these decisions with sound judgment regardless of your prudeness and/or misogyny.
It’s her body, her choice, and her Instagram account. As she said, the unfollow button is readily accessible. It’s just too bad it’s not as easy to filter out all those meddling comments.
