RwandAir to start weekly flights to London in May

RwandAir, the national carrier has announced plans to include London, United Kingdom, to its network of 22 destinations worldwide from May 26, according to the airline authority.

John Mirenge, chief executive, RwandAir told reporters on Tuesday that the airline will operate three weekly flights to and from London’s Gatwick airport on May 26 and it expects to exceed one million passengers on all its routes in the next three years.

“We are delighted to enable new and seamless connections between London and the whole of our network offering our esteemed customers a differentiated product in terms of comfort, good customer services and affordability”, he added.

Mirenge noted that the flights to Gatwick, being London’s second-busiest airport has been made possible by the delivery of the recently acquired two brand new Airbus A330-200 aircraft by the RwandAir.

“This step we have taken will contribute to tourism increase from Europe and other parts of the world to Rwanda which is one of the key sectors that have led the growth of the country’s economy,” he said.

The small central African airline will also start flights to Mumbai, India and Harare, Zimbabwe in the first week of April 2017.

Mirenge further said the airline also plans to launch flights to New York, United States, Bamako in Mali, Conakry in Guinea, Lilongwe in Malawi and Guangzhou in China.

The country’s airline has been growing at an average of 20 percent in the last six years and is currently positioning itself as the most efficient and reliable airline in the region, according to figures from the Rwanda’s ministry of infrastructure

The airline has 11 aircraft and expects delivery of a 12th, a Boeing 737-800, in May. Enditem
