
Since Ghana’s independence in 1957, no budget has ever made specific provisions for the transformation and development of Zongo communities.
The NPP happens to be the first political party, promised to establish one if yhey are granted electoral victory. Victory has come, and the Nana Akufo-Addo government has fulfilled this promise in its very first budget.
According to the vice president of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Government will soon introduce the necessary legislation to provide permanent funding for the Zongo Development Fund to ensure its smooth sustenance.
He said, this is to ensure that no government uses the excuse of no funding to scrap it. There is going to be an allocation of the cedi equivalent to $50 million US dollars deposited into the fund every year to keep it moving.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice President of Ghana gave the assurance in his speech at the 49th Annual Celebration of the Birth of Prophet Muhammed, organized by the Tijjaniya Muslim Mission at the Aboabo No.1 School Park in Kumasi, on Saturday March 25, 2017.
