Aduana Stars grabbed their first win of the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup group stage as they beat newly crowned Congolese champions AS Vita Club 2-1 in Dormaa on Wednesday.
The Ghanaian champions showed no sign of rustiness despite not being involved in a competitive game for over a month due to the no football activity in the country as they produced an excellent performance to hand new coach Kenichi Yatsuhashi his first win and boost their chances of reaching the knockout stage.
It took Aduana three minutes to find the first goal. Striker Bright Adjei lashed home from inside the area after receiving a forceful pass from striking partner Yahaya Mohammed.
The Ogya lads doubled their lead seven minutes later through Yahaya Mohammed who headed home Caleb Amankwah’s fine cross.
Mundele pulled a goal back for the visiting team with a stunning strike from a free kick.
Aduana Stars, however, held onto their lead and maintained their composure to run away with maximum points.
The victory leaves Aduana Stars occupying the first spot with four points, same as Vita Club who sit second. But Aduana's position could change depending on the outcome of the game between ASEC Mimosas and Raja Casablanca. ASEC and Raja have three and two points respectively.
Kenichi Yatsuhashi’s side will next visit Congo for the return encounter against AS Vita Club.
