GLICO gives Tagoe-Saucedo IBO title bout ?1m boost

Saturday’s showdown between IBO lightweight champion, Emmanuel ‘Game Boy’ and his challenger Fernando Saucedo has received an over GH?1 million boost from Insurance giants GLICO.

At a brief ceremony Monday GLICO’s executive team led by the Managing Director, Fuokuoh Kyei extended the package at their head office in Accra as their contribution to Tagoe’s fight being put together by Baby Jet Promotions.

Nana Efua Rockson, Group Head of Corporate Affairs of GLICO, who announced the package, said the gallant nature of the fight required that all fans and the boxer at the centre of all the action are covered.

“We have had a long-running relationship with sports over the last 3 decades and look forward to strengthening it further. We believe in Tagoe’s ability to deliver and want to ensure he is adequately covered.”

She announced a public liability cover of GHC 1 million, for all the fans who will be inside the Bukom Boxing Arena to watch the bout as well as a 50,000 cover Emmanuel Tagoe.

“We are confident about Tagoe’s strength and wits in the ring and we trust that he will deliver nothing short of a victory for Ghanaians. While we appreciate that his Argentine opponent is a good boxer we know what Tagoe has previously done in the ring and Saturday, January 27 will be no different,” she added.

Emmanuel  ‘Game Boy’ Tagoe was full of gratitude to the team at GLICO for the gesture. “I am so encouraged by this gesture and want to say on authority that it is one of my biggest sponsorship packages in my career. I have always given the fans a lot to be excited about and with this kind of support coming in, I am fired up to do more for my people and my country.

Tagoe did his usual urging of the public to get into the Bukom Arena early to see the writing of yet another piece of history.

“I am especially grateful to Mr Fuokuoh Kyei, the Managing Director of Glico Life for extending the big gesture to me ahead of this very crucial bout,” he said.

Emmanuel Tagoe the Game Boy won the IBO title on December 3 of 2016 at the Bukom Arena after stopping Mzonke Fana of South Africa, improving his professional record to 27 wins and one defeat.

The Ghanaian has previously had stints with the WBA International and WBO Africa titles. Fernando Saucedo’s record is his biggest credential aside his global rating. The Argentine has won 61 bouts, lost three and drawn three.
