Inmates freed, police officer dead in Kwabenya police station gang attack

A Police officer has been killed by a gang that stormed the Kwabenya District Police headquarters to free inmates and suspected armed robbers.

The Sunday dawn attack left blood stains on the floor belonging to the officer whose name is unknown but is believed to be in his 40's.

The police service hierarchy has descended at the district headquarters as criminal investigations start.

They include Inspector General of Police David Asante Apietu, Director-General of Operations, Dr. Dampare, ag. CID Director-General,DCOP Maame Yaa Tiwa Addo-Dankwa and DCOP George Mensah.

The area has been cordoned off.

Details remain sketchy but the police have assured it will release an official statement soon.
