Director of Creative Arts, responsible for Programs & Projects at the National Commission on Culture, Socrate Sarfo has expressed concerns over government’s failure to renovate the building the commission currently occupies.
The movie producer revealed to Doreen Avio in an interview that, “when you come to the Commission on Culture which is mandated to manage the cultural and arts sector, we are located in a building that is 107 years old without any renovation.”
He further described the building as “cracked on three sides”.
According to him, conditions inside the building have deteriorated to the extent that “if the Environment Ministry or whoever comes to inspect the building now, we will be evacuated.”
Despite this glaring danger, the politician, who is traumatized by the fear of the building collapsing, says all efforts to get the right authorities to come to their aid have all proven futile.
“Since I got there, I have written memos, I have had meetings with the Chief Director on several occasions but it is always about ‘ok, don’t worry, we will work on it, we will work on it,” he lamented.
Consequently, Socrate Sarfo has had to support the office personally, both with funds and with material in order to keep the office running.
