
Eight people died in a gory crash at Kormantse on the Cape Coast–Accra Highway within the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region last Saturday.
Five other passengers onboard the vehicle, including a child and the driver of a truck, are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
The crash, involving Mercedes Benz with registration number AS 4146-25 and a Hino truck, GW 5958-25, occurred around 3:50 a.m. on Saturday.
The Mercedes Benz, according to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), was from the Mankessim end of the road towards Cape Coast, while the Hino truck was travelling to Accra.
Some of the occupants, the service revealed, managed to get out of the vehicle safely, while others were rescued by passers-by before personnel of service arrived.
Personnel of the Fire Service from the Mankessim Fire Station managed to extricate two trapped victims who were suspected to have died instantly.
The injured were taken to the Saltpond Government hospital for treatment.
The accident scene, according to the service, with support from other stakeholders, was cleared for the smooth flow of traffic.
Investigation is currently being conducted to unravel the cause of the accident.
