A Former Chairman of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Mr Herbert Mensah, has stated that it is not the job of the owner of the club, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to invest in the club but rather those who “hold it.”
He said this at the Manhyia Palace when Kotoko presented the MTN FA Cup title to the Asantehene after beating Golden Kick 2-1 to win the trophy that qualifies Kotoko to compete in next season’s CAF Confederations Cup.
Herbert Mensah served as Kotoko Chairman from 1999 to 2003 and is widely regarded as one of the best leaders of the Porcupine Warriors.
He was a recipient of the Living Legend Award at the 2025 Ghana Football Awards recently and went on to call on the club to return to its glory days of winning the CAF Champions League twice.
“You must get back up, be at the World Club Championship, and bring the glory back. Otumfuo has invested, it is not Otumfuo’s job to invest in Kotoko. It is Kotoko, what you achieve and those who hold it who must invest. It is an honour, it is a privilege to hold Kumasi Asante Kotoko,” Herbert Mensah said.
