Let your actions reflect true meaning of sacrifice – Flt. Lt. Maiga

 Muslims have been urged to ensure that their actions reflect the true meaning of sacrifice, as they observe the Eid-ul-Adha celebrations.

The Ghana Airforce Imam, Flight Lieutenant Moucharoudine-Siddique Maiga, in a statement copied to The Ghanaian Times yesterday, said that Eid-ul-Adha, was not only about commemorating willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son, Ismail.

According to him, the cel­ebration of the Eid-ul-Adha was to ensure that Muslims embraced the values of self­lessness, responsibility, and devotion to Allah.

Flt. Lt. Maiga said this by drawing several key lessons from Prophet Ibrahim’s sacrifice to Allah.

He emphasised the im­portance of one’s wealth for better health, citing the need for governments to invest in healthcare infrastructure to create a comfortable envi­ronment for the citizenry.

The Ghana Airforce Imam urged leaders to prior­itise the well-being of future generations by making sacri­fice in their own comfort.

He also encouraged Mus­lims to sacrifice their ego and seek knowledge from others, regardless of their status or age, saying “When we sacrifice our ego, that is where we are able to kneel down before those that we think we are older than them or we are far advanced than them to learn some basic skills that we may need in our lives.”

Flt. Lt. Maiga cited the example of the Prophet Mohammed’s instruction to seek knowledge from the cradle to the tomb, even if it meant travelling to long distant lands like China.

Such advice, he said, was relevant today, given China’s emergence as a global power.

The Airforce Imam also entreated Muslims to prioritise positive values and actions, such as forgiveness, transparency, and kindness, while sacrificing negative be­haviours that could harm the relationship between Allah and others individuals.

Furthermore, he advised Muslims to perform Eid-ul-Adha sacrifice within their means, rather than trying to impress other by buying ani­mals they could not afford.

Flt. Lt. Maiga emphasised that Allah did not burden any soul beyond its capability and that the act of sacrifice should be done with sinceri­ty and devotion.
