Kumasi Asante Kotoko Head Coach, Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum, has praised the improved security arrangement at Kotoko’s home game, following the resumption of the Ghana Premier League (GFA).
He, however, called on the GFA to maintain the standards shown on resumption at all other GPL centres.
Dr Prosper Ogum made the call in a post-game interview after guiding Asante Kotoko to a 2-0 win over Legon Cities at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The game was Kotoko’s first since the league’s recommencement after a multiple week suspension that stemmed from Francis Yaw “Pooley” Frimpong’s death.
The break was occasioned by the murder of Kotoko fan, Nana Pooley, who was stabbed multiple times and died from the wounds when Kotoko played Nosatreman at Nsoatre and violent clashes broke out. He was recently buried and before the Legon Cities game, Kotoko players paid respect to him.
Dr Ogum was pleased with the improved security at the Baba Yara and called for the same level of attention of security to be replicated at all league centres.
“From what I saw today, I can say it is good, it’s good for our game. Everybody was safe within the tunnel, there were a lot of security men in the tunnel. I was very happy when I saw them because if I look at what happened at Nsoatre, I think we need some of these things to make sure all stakeholders…everybody is safe. That is exactly what the GFA has done today. If this can continue and will be the same at all centres, then that would be perfect.”
According to him, Kotoko, who next take on Samartex on Sunday, and has not find it easy overcoming the passing of ‘Nana Pooley’, an incident he said has taken a huge toll on the playing staff.
Pooley was buried on March 6 and before the start of the game, Kotoko players displayed a banner paying their last respect to Pooley.
“It has not been easy if you look at how associated we are all to Pooley. It has not been easy trying to overcome his death-. Sometimes, it looks like a dream but it’s a reality. It was very difficult to overcome if you look at the body language of the players; it wasn’t that pleasant and it was a sad body language that they exhibited throughout.”
He congratulated the players for putting aside their emotions to record a win for the supporters who he thanked so much for supporting despite the difficult circumstance.
“Unfortunately, they had to pull themselves together just a day after their fan was buried but they managed to put up the show that made their fans happy. –Citinewsroom
