CorpsAfrica/Ghana has held the second edition of its annual pitch day event with about 30 volunteers participating in it.
The Pitch Day, a key event on CorpsAfrica/Ghana’s annual calendar aims at getting community projects funded while introducing Volunteers to development partners and helping build networks.
It is also to promote a culture of philanthropy in Africa while building local awareness of CorpsAfrica mission in Africa.
Speaking at this year’s event which was held in Accra last Thursday, the Country Director of CorpsAfrica/Ghana, Mr Moses Cofie said his organisation was excited facilitating the programme.
He said the Corps/Africa had been facilitating collaboration between the youth and rural communities, something which had led to sustainable development while creating a better future for all.
Mr Cofie said CorpsAfrica was building the next generation of African leaders, and the goal of Pitch Day was to inspire like-minded individuals and businesses to support development by listening to the voices and needs of communities, rather than dictating terms of engagement.
Furthermore, he said the Pitch Day was an opportunity to build African youth’s professional skills in proposal development, presenting, pitching, fundraising and networking.
In all six volunteers presented their projects to highlight the needs of their communities and to secure funding to complete their community-led projects.
Jerone Agyapong serving in Aburansa community pitched for the expansion of the in-patient section of an existing CHPS compound), while Asantewah Yeboah serving in Tsibu-Awudome community, pitched for the completion and furnishing of 4-unit technical workshop.
Also Cynthia Bawa serving in Kokwaado community, pitched for the renovation and fencing of a nursery school with Nimatu Abdul-Rahaman serving in Gbabshei community, pitching for the construction of household biodigester latrines.
John Kaguna serving in Kpilo community, pitched for the renovation of a primary school and provision of water to the school while Godfred Dassah serving in Baglahi community, pitched for the provision and storage of potable water to the community.
Out of the 30 Volunteers, only six pitched their projects with remaining 24 who did not pitch showcasing prototypes of their projects in an exhibition.
Present at this year’s event were representatives from the UNDP, UNFPA, UNESCO, the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, the Rwandan, Kenyan and Senegalese embassies, Peace Corps Ghana, Mastercard Foundation, Farrelly & Mitchell, Star Foundation Ghana, Easy Water for Everyone, Zipline Ghana, Volta River Authority, and Telecel Ghana.
CorpsAfrica/Ghana, a non-profit organization that recruits, trains and deploys Volunteers to facilitate community-led projects, held its second edition of Pitch Day on 30th May 2024 in Greater Accra.
