Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Retired Daniel Nkrumah, an investigator, told the Accra High Court that Daniel Asiedu, murdered former Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North, J.B Danquah Adu.
The investigator said that there was clear proof that Asiedu, aka Sexy Dondon, was present at the crime scene.
ASP Nkrumah was testifying during cross-examination by Mr Yaw Dankwa, defence counsel for Asiedu, and Vincent Bossu, aka Junior Agogo.
Asiedu is being held for allegedly murdering the former MP, at his residence in 2016, at Shaishie in Accra.
Asiedu has denied charges of murder and robbery preferred against him.
Bossu and Asiedu have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime to wit robbery.Bossu has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
ASP Nkrumah told the court presided over by Mrs Justice Lydia Osei Marfo that, “I am in court to tell the truth. It was the first accused (Daniel Asiedu) who killed J.B Danquah Adu. Per our investigations, the killer was found, and it was no other than the first accused (Asiedu).”
The investigator dismissed the defence counsel’s claim that he (investigator) was present at the time of J.B Danquah’s death, and blamed Asiedu for the crime.
ASP Nkrumah also disputed the defence counsel’s assertion that the Ghana Police Service would have been in disarray if he (investigator) and the service had not tied the MP’s death to Asiedu.
The court heard that when the murder was reported, Assistant Commissioner of Police Daniel Abandoe led a team of officers to the crime scene.
ASP Nkrumah explained that despite being the main investigator, he also recorded the crime scene, adding that members of the team played various roles in the house of the former MP after the crime.
ASP Nkrumah could not tell the specific time that the body of J.B Danquah Adu was conveyed from his (former MP) house to the mortuary.
However, the investigator said that J.B Danquah Adu arrived home between 11:00 p.m and 11:50 p.m on the day of the murder.
Defence counsel informed the investigator that Apraku, a security officer, had issued a statement claiming that J.B Danquah Adu arrived home at 1:00 a.m on the day of the incident.
ASP Nkrumah told the court that the variations in the time did not undermine the witness’s credibility.
He said that when the team took the former MP’s body to the mortuary, his (former MP) relative identified the body. —GNA
