SOS Children’s villages applauded for projects in Ghana

Ambassador for SOS Chil­dren’s Villages in the Neder­lands, Edson Da Graca has paid a working visit to Ghana to abreast himself with operations of the organisation here in Ghana.

He was accompanied by Managing Director of the SOS Villages, Nederlands, Ms Arian Buurman and other officials of the world’s largest child welfare organisation.

Mr Da Graca, a prominent stand-up comedian and actor in the Nederland at a briefing held at the SOS Children’s Villages Tema location, said he was impressed by ongoing projects by the SOS Chil­dren’s Villages Ghana, especially the ‘Boosting Green Employment and Enterprise Opportunities,’ which focuses on creating labour market opportunities for more than 5,000 young people, women and returning migrants.

He stated that any initiative tar­geted at improving the wellbeing of families was worth investing in because in the end, it was the children that would benefit.

He mentioned that he was a strong advocate for child protec­tion and would continue to do his best in ensuring that the world becomes safer for children.

“I am very happy to be part of the SOS family. I love to get involved in things that benefit children and I am very happy about this visits. The dedication of the staff of SOS Children’s Villages Ghana to what they do is commendable.”

“Projects that I have seen so far shows that indeed the organisa­tion is doing well for children and families in general,” he added.

The actor underscored the significance of dedicating ade­quate funding to initiatives geared towards supporting children, add­ing that this was necessary for the creation of an enabling environ­ment for children to thrive.

On his part, the Ghana Country Director for SOS Children’s Vil­lages Ghana, Mr Alexander Mar Kekula, said he was impressed by the support given by Mr Da Graca to the organisation, saying it would go a long way in increasing funding for the smooth operations of SOS’s activities.

Ms Buurman was optimistic that Mr Da Graca’s commitment to SOS would continue to yield more benefit for the organisation and the world at large.

SOS Children’s Villages operate in 138 countries and territories worldwide with a programmes reach of 2.5million children and families worldwide.
