The National Chairman of the newly certified political party, Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Samuel Johnson, has pledged to relieve the citizenry of the current socioeconomic hardships if voted into power in next year’s elections.
“We hope to win to bring some relief to the ordinary Ghanaian because we have countless people, especially the youth, who are also not working, corruption has resulted in the fall of previous governments, they invest much money into campaigning and when they come to power, they neglect the ordinary Ghanaian,” he lamented.
Speaking to the media after the party was handed the final Certificates of Registration to two newly formed political parties, GUM and the Power Unity Party (PUP) by the Electoral Commission (EC), Mr Johnson indicated that “ when we come to power as being directed by God and plans of Reverend Christian Andrews, we will put measures in place to check corruption since we have had enough of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The registration of the two parties brings to 27 the number of registered political parties likely to contest next year’s elections.
Founder and leader of GUM, Rev. Andrews noted that the objective of the party was to address the challenges confronting the nation, the movement, though new on political front, had received massive endorsement across the country.
“The ideology of the movement is to revisit the development agenda of Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, which focused on massive industrialisation to propel national growth, development and cohesion, his good works were abandoned both by NPP and NDC, the movement will be the only government to transform the nation when voted for in 2020 elections.
“Although I founded GUM, I will not lead the movement into presidential race but elect executives, including presidential candidates to be done before the end of the year. We will officially announce our existence, outdoor our executives, including presidential candidate and launch our campaign, with ‘Arise for Development’ as our slogan.
“The movement’s agenda is to rally the citizenry, particularly the teeming unemployed youth, to join forces with us and revive development policies of Dr Nkrumah as it is the only way the country can overcome its development woes,” Rev. Andrews assured. -citinewsroom.com
