Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Felix Annan is upbeat about their chances of beating Kariobangi Sharks in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup.
The Porcupine Warriors will play as guests to the Sharks in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup at the Moi International Stadium on Saturday.
Annan believes they have a formidable squad capable of returning to Ghana with maximum points during an interview with the media in the wake of their 3-0 win over the Black Meteors on Sunday.
“We are playing very well. The new players are jelling very well with the old players. We are in good shape,” he said.
“We are not going to Kenya to settle for a draw. We are going there to win so that the second leg will be a mere formality. We have a strong squad to achieve that.”
The Porcupine Warriors will be hoping to make it to the money zone of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Kotoko will depart Ghana for Kenya tomorrow to prepare for the encounter against their Kenyan opponents.
Meanwhile, former Black Stars Captain Stephen Appiah has advised Asante Kotoko to be cautious of the weather conditions in Kenya ahead of the match.
Appiah, who was a member of the Black Stars team that engaged Kenya in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Harambee Stars of Kenya two months ago, called on the Reds to consider acclimatisation exercise in a country close to Kenya to be able to deal with the high altitude during the game.
“Asante Kotoko must be careful with the weather conditions in Kenya before they play Kariobangi Sharks because it can be a disadvantage to them,” Appiah told Abusua FM.
“When the Black Stars faced Ethiopia in the 2019 AFCON qualifiers, the players struggled throughout the second-half because they couldn’t breathe properly. The weather in Kenya and Ethiopia are almost the same and it is at times terrible for visitors.
“If they train well and go into the game with a well-rehearsed plan, they can achieve a good result. They can even spend few days in one of the neighbouring countries so that they can be ready,” he added. -Ghanasoccernet
