The Confederation of African Football (CAF) yesterday sealed a four-year deal with American payments technology company, VISA.
The deal signed at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra will see Visa become official sponsors of CAF’s flagship competition, the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), beginning with the 2019 edition as well as other CAF organised competitions.
President of Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa (CEMEA) Andrew Torre said the company was elated to be associated with the “most important football brand in Africa,”
Mr Torre stated that Visa’s obsession with football on the African continent was an extension of their brand that signifies collaboration, reliability, acceptance and inclusion akin to football.
He said the partnership will support tourism, making it easier and safer for travellers in host cities to transact digital payments rather than using cash.
CAF President Ahmad Ahmad welcomed the VISA brand onboard saying that “they possess the same global appeal just like football and we are grateful for their sponsorship”.
He said the partnership will open doors for both parties to access various business and growth opportunities.
Group Country Manager of Visa, West Africa, Kemi Okusanya said the partnership means football in Africa will access one of the best technologies in the world.
