SOCCER Angels beat Mallam 2-0 to win an U-19 soccer gala played at the Anglican School Park on Saturday in Tema Newtown.
On their way to the finals, Soccer Angels beat AC Milan 1-0 and eliminated Adidas United 1-0, while Mallam defeated Triumphant Academy 3-0 and edged out ‘We and Them’ 5-4 on penalties.
The match was organised by Yohane Amarh Ashitey, a Telecommunication Engineer from Tema Manhean to unearth talents from the community.
The programme which coincided with the 40th birthday celebration of Mr. Ashitey attracted scores of sports enthusiasts including some members of the Tema Traditional Council, coaches and scouts from Vision FC and Dreams FC.
The winners of the competition, Soccer Angels, received a giant trophy and undisclosed cash prize, while the runners-up, Mallam also received undisclosed cash prize.
Additionally, eight players who excelled at the event were selected for trials with Dream FC and Vision FC.
Presenting the awards to the winners, Mr. Ashitey commended the teams for the sportsmanship exhibited throughout the competition.
He urged them to desist from all forms of negative tendencies that may ruin their future aspirations.
Mr. Ashitey promised to support those selected for trials and urged them to work hard to justify the confidence by the selectors.
