?The Concerned Farmers Association of Ghana (CFA?Ghana) has decried what it calls “profound disappointment and frustration” over the persistent politicisation of Farmers’ Day celebrations.
?“We urge the government to stop politicising Farmers’ Day and invest in infrastructure that empowers farmers,” ?the President of the Farmers Association, Nana Oboadie Boateng Bonsu II said.
He noted that for 41 years, the occasion has failed to translate into meaningful benefits for farmers, with politics overshadowing the sector’s critical needs.
?In a statement issued on December 2, 2025, Nana Boateng Bonsu, who also answers to ‘Farmer General’, said farmers are dismayed that the day has become a platform for political posturing, benefiting a select few “political farmers” while the majority struggle to survive, emphasising that the “Day demands real action” since the absence of essential infrastructure like irrigation systems, functional dams and adequate storage facilities remains a stark reality.
Nana Oboadie Boateng Bonsu II said farmers deserve more than photo shoots and empty
Promises – “Enough is Enough”.
The association, however, suggested that the President of Ghana uses Farmers’ Day to announce a “single-digit interest rate” for farmers, a move that could transform the agricultural sector and support the value chain.
While commending the President for his resetting agenda, the farmers’ union urged him to prioritise the critical issues affecting farmers and mentioned the devastating impact of galamsey (illegal mining) on our land and cocoa production, the backbone of our economy.
“Mr President, we don’t eat gold; we need sustainable agriculture, not destroyed farmlands”, the statement reminded the President.
?The association also cautioned the organisers of the Farmers Day to ensure a free, fair and transparent selection process for award winners cautioning that the association intends to audit all awards given over the period from 2017 to 2025.
