Former Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is seeking to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 General Elections has staged an impressive show of strength in the stronghold of one of his key contenders, Dr Bryan Acheampong.
Dr. Bawumia’s tour through Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong’s home constituency saw him draw massive support ahead of the party’s presidential primary slated for January, 2025.
As part of his Eastern Region itinerary, Dr. Bawumia and his campaign team visited Abetifi, the very constituency Bryan Acheampong represents in Parliament.

The former Vice President, credited with several policy innovations during his tenure, was greeted by a large and enthusiastic crowd, signaling a significant boost to his candidacy within Bryan Acheampong’s own political backyard.
During the visit, NPP supporters, clad in party colours, waved flags and danced as they welcomed him into the constituency. The charged atmosphere suggested a growing momentum behind his campaign.
The former Vice President expressed gratitude for the overwhelming reception, noting:“Abetifi, Nkawkaw, Abirem and Atiwa East constituencies showed up with much love and support as I continued my tour of the Eastern Region.
“The strong desire to win with me is very much appreciated, and I reiterate my commitment to work with all for our collective victory.”
Dr. Bawumia also began a new phase of his campaign in the Eastern Region, making stops in Afram Plains North, Afram Plains South and Mpraeso constituencies.
His journey across the river into Afram Plains on a ferry evoked what he described as nostalgic memories of the work he and party members have done in the area over the past 17 years.
“We are still on a journey to win together and make our party and country greater. I look forward to meeting and interacting with all of you in the remaining constituencies,” he added
