According to a statement from the Police, preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased’s mother, Ama Asantewaa, reported to the Amasaman Police in February 2025 that her son had died after falling ill on February 28, 2025. She further alleged that before his death, Ransford had confided in her that his coach, Anyass Ibrahim, had sexually abused him.
The case has since been taken over by the Homicide Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters for further investigation.
Police said the suspect, Anyass Ibrahim, was arrested on November 4, 2025, to assist with investigations. He was interrogated, his statement taken, and later granted bail, with a directive to report regularly to the CID Headquarters.
A review of medical reports submitted by the deceased’s mother from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and the Maternal and Child Health Hospital (Children’s Hospital) in Kumasi suggests that the deceased was treated for liver and kidney-related conditions prior to his death.
The Police added that efforts are underway to obtain official medical reports from both facilities to confirm these findings. A court order has been secured to compel the hospitals to release the documents after earlier requests were declined.
Meanwhile, investigators have extended their probe following the emergence of a viral video showing the suspect, Ibrahim, in a compromising situation with a minor.
The Police have urged members of the public with credible information related to the case to contact the Homicide Unit at the CID Headquarters or report to the nearest Police Station to assist ongoing investigations.
