The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted two retired senior police officers to their rightful ranks.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Dr Benjamin Agordzo (rtd), has been elevated to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), while Chief Superintendent of Police, Stellar Sedame, has been promoted to the rank of ACP.
Dr Agordzo’s promotion comes after a long battle in the courts over a case which is attributed to his alleged involvement in a coup plot.
However, when he, together with two other military personnel, Colonel Samuel Kwadwo Gameli and Cpl Seidu Abubakar were acquitted and discharged by the courts on January 24, 2024 his promotion to DCOP was overdue.
Reports have it that, on February 1, 2022 the mates of Course 34, which he belongs to, were promoted.
On November 11, 2023 he proceeded on compulsory retirement in the rank of ACP, twenty-two (22) clear months after his course mates were elevated.
Similarly, Chief Superintendent Stellar Sedame was also due for promotion to ACP, having been part of a batch of Course 39 officers who were elevated on November 1, 2024 to the next rank.
However, when she attempted to collect her corresponding accoutrement from the Quartermaster Stores, she was informed that her promotion was an error and her name had been deleted from the list.
In less than a fortnight, on November 13, 2024 she proceeded on compulsory retirement.
Despite this setback, the IGP, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, in consultation with the newly inaugurated Police Council has recognised Madam Sedame’s merits and promoted her to the rank of ACP, effective the batch’s date of elevation.
One of the beneficiaries who pleaded anonymity told The Chronicle that, the promotions are seen as a testament to the IGP’s commitment to fairness and justice within the Ghana Police Service.
The individual who was in tears of joy, concluded that by righting the wrongs, the IGP has sent a strong message about his administration’s values and dedication to serving its personnel with dignity and respect.
