Jackson University College on Tuesday joined the nation in commemorating the inaugural National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, declared by the President of the Republic of Ghana.
The institution held a solemn ceremony themed “Jackson Prays for Ghana” at its Kumasi headquarters, with thousands of students and community members participating virtually across the country and abroad.
The event, organised with the support of media partners, Lawson TV and the Multimedia Group, featured worship, prayer, keynote addresses and a sermon – all centered on promoting national peace, unity and development.
Opening the ceremony, Professor Ebenezer Jackson, President and Director of the University College, emphasised the need for unity in his address.
“We all need to be united as a nation. It is only through unity that we can move forward,” he said.
His remarks highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in Ghana’s journey toward progress.
Delivering the keynote sermon, Reverend James Annan of the Methodist Church, Aprade Society urged Ghanaians to pursue a moral and spiritual renewal.
Preaching from Jeremiah 29:7–12 – he called on citizens to embrace unity and truth.
“Speak life, not curses. Promote unity, not tribalism. Uphold truth, not rumours. Seek justice with love, not vengeance,” he charged.
Closing the event, Mrs. Theodosia Jackson, Principal of Jackson College of Education, praised the President’s decision to declare the day of prayer, describing it as a spiritual directive.
“Prayer plays a significant role in the success of everything. So, if the President has declared a nationwide prayer for the country, then it is a clear sign that Ghana has hope for a brighter future,” she said.
She further commended the President for what she described as an act of obedience to divine guidance.
Jackson University College reaffirmed its commitment to holistic education, not only through its academic offerings, such as Bachelor of Education and IT programmes, but also in fostering the spiritual and moral growth of future leaders.
The event ended with a unified message of hope and faith: Ghana’s future is one worth praying for.
