The Dansoman Circuit Court, presided over by Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit, on Tuesday denied bail to a 24-year-old commercial motorbike rider (Okada rider), Manaf Osman, who stands accused of robbery.
Chief Inspector Kwadwo Aboagye led the prosecution in the case in which Osman has pleaded not guilty to a charge of robbery contrary to Section 149 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
According to the brief facts presented in court, the complainant, Joyce Lartey, a resident of Dansoman-B. Opoku, was on her way to work at around 4:30 a.m.
On June 27, 2025, when the alleged robbery occurred near Tony Park, close to the Step by Step Preparatory School. Osman, who resides at Shukura-Ako Store, allegedly emerged from an alley, threatened her with a pair of scissors, and forcefully took her handbag.
The handbag reportedly contained an iPhone 13 Pro Max, a purse, a bowl, a water bottle, and an umbrella — items collectively valued at GH?11,535.00.
With the help of a Community Police Assistant, Akwasi Dwamena, who is expected to serve as a key witness and other members of the public, the accused was apprehended moments after the incident.
The stolen items, including the scissors allegedly used in the robbery, were retrieved from Osman on the spot.
The iPhone was returned to the complainant to enable communication during the ongoing investigation.
Osman was subsequently rearrested and charged at the police station. He remains in police custody as investigations continue.
Her Honour Abdul-Baasit, in her ruling, exercised the court’s discretion to refuse bail pursuant to Section 96(5)(a) of the Criminal and Other Offences (Procedure) Act, ordering that the accused be remanded into police custody until the next adjourned date.
The court has directed the prosecution to file disclosures and witness statements ahead of the commencement of the Case Management Conference (CMC).
The case has been adjourned to July 14, 2025.
