Tensions are reportedly mounting at Ada in the Greater Accra Region after the Ada Traditional Council embarked on a 2-day capacity building workshop at the luxurious Safari Valley Resort in the Okere District of the Eastern Region.
The event, which began on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 and ended yesterday, Thursday, June 19, 2025 has sparked controversy due to the perceived disconnect between the Council’s financial struggles and the lavish setting.
The Traditional Council’s decision to hold the workshop at such an expensive resort has raised eyebrows, especially considering its financial woes.
A week ago, the youth of Ada invaded the dilapidated offices of the Traditional Council, pelting stones during the launch of the annual Asafotufiame festival.
A source who preferred anonymity told The Chronicle that the Traditional Council’s inability to perform certain rituals to cleanse the community of ‘filth’ after last year’s festival has convinced them that it is indeed in financial crisis.
He went on that, unlike the previous years when the launch was done in the open with dignitaries in attendance, this year’s was performed at the traditional council office, a situation that compounded the perception that their financial health is not the best.
The youth, who spoke to The Chronicle was, therefore, surprised that the same ‘cash strapped’ Traditional Council could organise a capacity building workshop at no mean a place than the luxury resort.
To him, the community remains on edge, wondering if the traditional authorities will address their concerns and disclose the true sponsor behind the event.
He concluded by saying that, with tensions simmering, the situation could escalate quickly if not handled carefully.
When contacted at the seminar, the Registrar of the Ada Traditional Council, Mr Mettle Nunoo and the Registrar of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, Mr Enock Addo, though reached separately, their responses were strikingly similar.
Echoing each other, the two officials who declined to disclose the sponsor of the seminar entreated that the benefits to the chiefs were paramount to them than the sponsorship of the programme.
Mr Mettle Nunoo further stated that, he would disclose the sponsors after the workshop when he communicates to appreciate them.
Stay tuned with The Chronicle in the bunkers at Ada.
