The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has officially passed out its 30th Batch of Recruits in a vibrant and meticulously organised parade at the Immigration Service Training School (ISTS) in Assin Foso.
The parade, marked by pomp and precision, was reviewed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak (MP), who lauded the recruits and their trainers for their dedication and discipline.
The event witnessed the arrival and seating of invited guests, featured a coordinated march by the recruits and the regimental band.
Dignitaries including the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Directorates, Traditional leaders, Municipal Chief Executives and Parliamentarians graced the occasion.
Delivering his keynote address, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak emphasised the essential role of the Immigration Service in ensuring the country’s national security.
“You are expected to be the gatekeepers of our nation and your work will have direct impact on national security,” he stated, reinforcing the critical function of the GIS in guarding Ghana’s borders.
The Minister for the Interior acknowledged the evolving complexities of migration and border control and urged the recruits to remain vigilant in addressing emerging threats such as smuggling, human trafficking, drug trafficking and terrorism.
“The world is changing rapidly and demands a dynamic Service. Border Security is not only about illegal entry but also about tackling transnational crimes. As young and energetic personnel, you will be at the forefront of these challenges,” he added.
Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak highlighted that over 2,000 undocumented migrants had recently been apprehended, demonstrating the pressing need for an alert and well-trained immigration workforce.
The Reviewing Officer praised the quality of the six-month para-military training undertaken by the recruits, which included modules on immigration law, ethics, cyber security and human trafficking.
He also commended the instructors and the Commanding Officer of ISTS for their immense contribution in shaping the new officers.
“It took the tireless effort of their instructors to transform them into what we are witnessing this morning. I say Ayekoo to the training team,” he remarked.
The ceremony proceeded with prayers from both Christian and Muslim Clerics, a troop of the band, a slow and quick-time march pass, presentation of awards and the administration of the official oath by the Commanding Officer.
Top-performing recruits were recognised, with Recruit Stanley Awuley Lartey, receiving the Overall Best Recruit award.
The Minister congratulated him and encouraged him to strive for continued excellence.
“To the overall best recruit, Stanley Awuley Lartey, I say well done. Do not relent in your efforts to continuously improve yourself,” he advised.
