A GH¢1.8m Soap Factory constructed by AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) Obuasi Mine for the Dokyiwa Peace Womens’ Cooperative Group has been commissioned and handed over to them at a ceremony held at Dokyiwa in the Obuasi West Municipality.
Mr. Edmund Oduro Agyei, the AGA Community Relations Manager noted that the commissioning signifies not just the opening of a new facility, but the dawn of new opportunities and shared prosperity.

“As we hand over the soap factory, I would like to use the opportunity to thank Nananom and all stakeholders for supporting us in this endeavour”, he said.
The Community Relations Manager said, “We all look forward to seeing this factory flourish and provide the positive impact it will bring to Dokyiwa and Obuasi at large.”
He pointed out that the optimal objective of coming out with the soap factory was to get the 35 women to have alternative livelihoods.
“We believe that as the women embark on this journey lives will change and to be able to improve their own corner in terms of their livelihoods,” Mr. Oduro Agyei added.
The MCE for Obuasi West Municipality, Madam Faustilove Appiah Kannin, noted that supporting the masses with livelihoods is the responsibility of the local government and thanked the company for partnering the government to provide the women with the soap factory.
She also appealed to AGA management to extend their benevolence to the people of Ntonsua and Komfuo Akuraa as they also need some support.
Nana Kwaku Ponko III, Kunkahene, called on AGA to make periodic maintenance of the Dokyiwa road that has been riddled with potholes.
He also urged the Municipal Assembly to prioritise the development of the Kunka area, noting that the assembly gets most of its revenue from Kunka.
