Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Agradaa or Evangelist Mama Pat, has dismissed with contempt a defamation lawsuit filed against her by gospel musician and TV host, Empress Gifty Oppong Adorye, also known as Empress Gifty.
Reacting to the GH¢20 million (200 billion old cedis) suit, Agradaa launched a fiery tirade, ridiculing the legal action and describing it as an empty threat.
Speaking in Twi interspersed with English in a viral video on social media, she said“every idiot can go to court, do you understand me? Every idiot can go to court. I deal with only the classy people. You can sue me for 200 million cedis – I’ll sue your husband in international court in dollars.”
In her outburst, Agradaa criticised Empress Gifty and her husband, politician Hopeson Adorye, accusing them of orchestrating a smear campaign against her.
“You can’t scare me with court. I beat you on social media and I’ll beat you and your husband. You are both f…,” she said.
The controversial comments are in response to a lawsuit filed by Empress Gifty at the High Court in Accra on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
Represented by Sam Kyere Esq. of Ossei-Aidooh-Akpokavie Kyere & Co., the award-winning gospel singer is seeking GH¢20 million in damages for what she describes as “highly defamatory statements” made by Agradaa during several live sessions broadcast on Facebook, TikTok and YouTube.
According to the suit, Empress Gifty is also demanding a perpetual injunction restraining Agradaa and her associates from making further defamatory remarks.
She is further seeking a court order to compel the evangelist to take down all offending content and to pay for all legal costs, including Attorney fees.
The plaintiff, who recently won Best Traditional Gospel Song at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards and is the host of UTV’s United Showbiz and U-Cook Show, described the impact of Agradaa’s words as deeply damaging to her personal and professional reputation.
Married to politician Mr. Hopeson Adorye and a mother of four, Empress Gifty claims the verbal attacks have not only affected her, but have also led to her children being ridiculed in school.
Court documents cite specific insults made in the Twi language that accused Empress Gifty of being promiscuous, engaging in sexual acts with dogs and undergoing plastic surgery.
One of the translated statements attributed to Agradaa includes:”Your wife flirts with dogs, dogs lick your wife’s vagina, which is how she makes money to cater for you.”
Empress Gifty asserts that such comments were not only defamatory, but calculated to destroy her standing in Ghana’s music and entertainment industry. She has asked the court to intervene, describing the words as “unprintable” and degrading.
Meanwhile, Agradaa has eight days to respond to the lawsuit either personally or through legal representation. Failure to do so could result in a default judgment in favour of the plaintiff.
Despite the serious nature of the case, Agradaa appears unrepentant and defiant.
“Lawyers must eat, so go to court taya,” she said, and mockingly added that “My name is Woman Gaddafi, Woman Trump!”
