Asante Kotoko kept their Ghana Premier League title hopes alive with a resounding 4-1 victory over Dreams FC at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, closing the gap to just two points behind the leaders, with three games left.
Head coach Karim Zito, who crossed over from Dreams in April, used his inside knowledge to guide the Porcupine Warriors to a commanding win over his former side.
Albert Amoah opened the scoring for Kotoko in the 17th minute with a composed finish from close range. Kwame Opoku then doubled the advantage, capping off a swift counter-attack that began from a Dreams FC corner.
Kwame Opoku wasn’t done yet, he grabbed his second and Kotoko’s third with a delightful lob over the advancing goalkeeper, taking his season tally to 10 goals.
Dreams briefly gave themselves hope when Jonathan Nemorden pulled one back five minutes after the break, but substitute Wisdom Fernando Bassey sealed the win with Kotoko’s fourth, later on.
The result lifts Kotoko to within touching distance of the summit. They now prepare for a potentially decisive clash against league leaders Bibiani Gold Stars.
Dreams FC, safe from relegation, will aim to bounce back against Berekum Chelsea next weekend.
