The Dansoman Circuit Court has granted bail in the sum of GH¢200,000 to Daniel Okpoti Okerchiri, a 35-year-old Consultant with Tilly’s World of Possibilities Consultancy, who stands accused of defrauding 27 individuals under the guise of securing Canadian visas for them.
Presiding judge, Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit, granted the bail with stringent conditions.
Daniel Okerchiri is to provide three sureties, two of whom must be public servants earning not less than GH¢1,000 per month. He has also been ordered to deposit his Ghana Card and passport with the court’s registry and report to the police every two weeks.
Daniel Okerchiri, who was initially remanded in police custody on May 9, 2025 is facing two charges: conspiracy to commit crime, namely defrauding by false pretence and defrauding by false pretence – in violation of sections 23(1) and 131(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). The case has been adjourned to May 12, 2025.
According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Kwadwo Aboagye, the complainant, Abraham Nii Okai Reindorf, a trader, was introduced to Daniel Okerchiri and a woman identified only as Thelma – believed to be the owner of the consultancy – through a contact in Canada in June 2023.
The duo allegedly promised to secure Canadian visas for Nii Okai Reindorf and others.
Nii Okai Reindorf subsequently mobilised 27 individuals and collected varying amounts of money, totalling GH¢159,000 and US$7,900 which he handed over to the accused and his alleged accomplices. After receiving the funds, Daniel Okerchiri reportedly failed to deliver and went into hiding.
Following a police report filed on January 26, 2025 Daniel Okerchiri was tracked and arrested. During investigations, he allegedly admitted to the offense and implicated another suspect, Adama Alifa, who is currently at large, as the ultimate recipient of the funds.
The court heard that the accused has so far refunded GH¢14,600 and US$400, including GH¢10,000 recently returned to the complainant.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the case.
