The Women’s Forum of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has donated GH¢5,000 and assorted items to the Osu Children’s Home as part of activities marking this year’s Mother’s Day celebration.
The donation, made on Saturday, was the fourth consecutive gesture under the Forum’s annual outreach initiative to give back to society, inspire the underprivileged and showcase the compassionate side of the legal profession.
Presenting the items and cash to the orphanage, President of the GBA, Mrs. Efua Ghartey, described the occasion as a joyful one rooted in the spirit of Mother’s Day. She emphasised that the Bar had institutionalied the initiative as a key feature of its calendar.
Mrs. Ghartey said the Bar wants to show that lawyers are not only about courtrooms and legal arguments, but also about care, compassion and social responsibility.
To her, the most important aspect of the donation was to inspire the children here to dream big and consider careers in the legal field one day.
She urged other professional bodies and associations to emulate the gesture by extending support to the less fortunate.
“Many of us have more than enough in our homes. Let’s share with those who struggle to meet their basic needs,” she added.
Mrs. Ghartey also called on the Church to play a leading role in spreading kindness and uplifting the most vulnerable in society.
President of the Women’s Forum, Sheila Yaa Nyantekyiwah Minkah-Premo, Esq., noted that the donation was specifically timed to honour mothers and to remember orphans during the Mother’s Day celebration.
Management of the Osu Children’s Home expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the GBA Women’s Forum for the timely support and pledged to put the items and funds to good use.
The donation included food items, toiletries, and other essentials to support the children’s upkeep.
