The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 presidential elections, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has pleaded with Ghanaians to forgive the immediate past administration for its shortcomings.
Speaking during the NPP’s Thank You Tour in the Ahafo Region, he told the people that the party had taken valuable lessons from its time in government and would strive to do better if given the opportunity once more.
“We recognise that we have made mistakes along the way,” Dr Bawumia said, “and we sincerely ask for your forgiveness,” he said, and emphasised the importance of accountability and reflection in governance.

He explained that the NPP was deeply grateful for the support it had received over the years and that the party was committed to regaining the trust of the people.
“This ‘Thank You Tour’ is not just a celebration; it is also a moment of sober reflection. We have listened to your concerns and we are determined to chart a new path forward together,” he said.
The former Vice President further urged Ghanaians not to lose hope in the NPP’s vision for the country.
He highlighted the party’s track record in areas such as digitalisation, infrastructure development and economic stabilisation, arguing that despite the challenges, significant progress had been made.
“We will not make excuses,” Dr Bawumia stated, adding “Instead, we pledge to correct our lapses and to deliver even better governance in the future.”
According to him, the 2028 election would be a critical moment for Ghana’s democracy and appealed for continued faith in the NPP’s mission.
“Let us move forward together with a renewed sense of purpose. We owe it to every Ghanaian to serve with humility, dedication and an unrelenting commitment to progress.”
Bawumia also assured Ghanaians that their concerns have been acknowledged and will guide the party’s future actions.
“You have spoken and we have heard you. Your concerns, your hopes and your expectations have been received loud and clear.”
He reiterated the party’s commitment to learning from the experience and using it as a foundation to strengthen their policies and strategies going forward.
Dr Bawumia expressed gratitude to the people of Goaso and the broader Ghanaian populace for their support and constructive feedback.
He noted, “We are grateful for your trust, your criticisms and your encouragement. They are invaluable as we chart a renewed path for the NPP and for Ghana.”
According to him, the ‘Thank You Tour’ was not only an expression of appreciation but also an opportunity to reconnect with the grassroots.
The former Vice President further called for unity within the party, urging members and supporters to remain focused and resilient.
“Let us work together, hand in hand, to build the Ghana we all desire. Together, we can overcome every challenge and seize every opportunity,” Dr Bawumia stated.
